Currently a senior medical director at Ogilvy CommonHealth Medical Education, Craig Gelband has worked in the medical and pharmaceutical industries for more than 10 years. Outside of his professional pursuits, Craig Gelband stays involved with his alma mater, Duke University, and keeps in touch with his fellow alumni from Camp Chickawah.
Now closed, Camp Chickawah was an all-boys summer camp located on Island Pond in Harrison, Maine. The camp first opened in 1920 and operated for 65 years before it closed in 1985. Today, the site is occupied by the all-girls camp Fernwood Cove, but it is still considered home to the many men who spent their summers at Camp Chickawah during their childhood. In 2007 and 2009, dozens of former campers gathered at Fernwood Cove to participate in Chickawah traditions and catch up with childhood friends. Registration recently opened for the next Camp Chickawah reunion, which will be held August 22-24, 2014, at the former Chickawah campus in Harrison.

Dr. Craig Gelband attended Duke University as an undergraduate and studied zoology before earning his medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. Craig Gelband currently serves as senior medical director at Ogilvy CommonHealth Medical Education.
During the first year of study, zoology students participate in a number of courses shared by all life science students, including classes dealing with molecular biology and conservation efforts. While students who are eager to engage in fieldwork may not understand the value of these courses, it is of vital importance that prospective zoologists establish a sound fundamental basis that can be built upon in following years. Moving forward, courses in zoology are generally high on practical work experience both in the field and in research labs. Field work can range from spending time at local biological stations to traveling abroad to research habitats as exotic as the Ecuadorian rainforest. During the final year of a zoological student’s education, individuals demonstrate all of the skills they have acquired by working with professionals in the field and conducting original research projects. |
